Traffic awareness campaign at OMR

As I stop at  SRP tools signal  to take a ride on OMR in my avenger bike, a couple of young men approach me and request me to take a few steps back, I was unaware that I had overstepped the traffic border line. One of them hands me a paper .Seeing my hands on my bike s accelerator  he stuffs  a paper into my pocket .

Every change starts with awareness it starts and goes on to list the number of accidents which take place in India and Chennai. It is soul numbing to hear that every one hour 26 persons are dying on Indian road. Most of them due to traffic negligence it claims.

This is part of the traffic awareness campaign conducted by Thozan (http://www.thozan.org) a social organisation committed to making positive changes in the society. The  awareness was held in 100 signals from 4 pm to 6 pm and SRP tools signal was one of them. That's where they caught me and requested to step back.

Hope their campaign succeeds and the fatal Indian traffic turn less dangerous.

Here is the pledge they ask

No accident in a day is my duty
I will follow traffic rules in my lifetime
It is my duty to reduce traffic jam everyday
I will avoid usage of mobile phone while riding
I will avoid usage of drinks/drugs while driving
I will wear helmet during driving
I will put seatbelt during driving
I will follow signals and signboards during driving

All the best thozha !

Bus stops @ OMR

OMR is almost a straight highway, taking a bus ride can be smooth except at few junctions like Tidel park and Shollinganallur.Though MTC offers nearly 400 trips a day, buses are often crowded. The hot sun adds to the uneasiness. There are a few AC buses though mostly taken by IT professionals working in software companies situated along the IT corridor.                                         To take these bus rides, commuters have to wait at bus stops situated along the road. There are 23 major bus stops as of now and two routes , one from Adyar to Kelambakkam and the other from Velachery to Kelambakkam. Both these routes meet at SRP tools.
