With traffic in OMR increasing day by day , it has become imperative for government to take immediate steps to reduce it. There were few options considered by the government to mitigate this rapidly increasing problem.

 1) Construct Bus Rapid Transit System
2) Construct an elevated highway
3)Construct flyovers at critical junctions (suggested by American consultants)

There was indecision regarding this for around four years and the Government has finally decided to go with a elevated highway. This might take a period of seven years to complete.
Bids are already opened by the Government to prepare a Detailed Project Report(DPR) for the construction of the elevaed highway.

Bid details here : http://www.tnrdc.com/downloads/CONS-DPR%20ELIVE%20ROAD-MULTI%20CAR%20PARKING-NIT.pdf

The bids are open till 19th june 2014

The elevated highway is to be done in two phases :

Phase I : Taramani to Siruseri
Phase II : Siruseri to Mamallapuram

The total length of the elevated highway is 45 kms.Along with the elevated highway bid is also open to do a DPR on constructing a multi level car parking facility with the following facilities at SIPCOT in Siruseri:

1.Roof top restaurant
2.Drive in restaurant
3.Bus bay and parking facilities
4.Children's park

With the rapid growth of IT industries and real estate along the corridor, traffic congestion has become a must-look-after-issue for the Government. The proposal was announced by Chief Minister Jayalalitha during the last budget.

  1. OMR has a lot of properties and thus too many builders to choose from. You need to be very careful before investing with these guys, huge monies are involved. I personally have had an awesome experience with Radiance realty a real estate company of Varun Manian. They have I guess 3 projects in OMR or nearby. Plus they are really trustworthy, I had a great buying experience with them and soon we will move into our property in Shine

Bus stops @ OMR

OMR is almost a straight highway, taking a bus ride can be smooth except at few junctions like Tidel park and Shollinganallur.Though MTC offers nearly 400 trips a day, buses are often crowded. The hot sun adds to the uneasiness. There are a few AC buses though mostly taken by IT professionals working in software companies situated along the IT corridor.                                         To take these bus rides, commuters have to wait at bus stops situated along the road. There are 23 major bus stops as of now and two routes , one from Adyar to Kelambakkam and the other from Velachery to Kelambakkam. Both these routes meet at SRP tools.
