With about three fourths of software exports exported from OMR, the IT Companies lining up on the highway have been facing water crisis for the past few weeks. "Please use minimum water . There is water shortage due to tanker lorry strike" so reads the canteen boards in one of the major IT Companies on OMR. The 52 hour strike just ended bringing relief to the IT Companies.
Times of India quotes that the water crisis is mainly due to dependency of OMR on informal sectors for its water needs (tanker lorries). With so many apartments lining up the IT Corridor this could soon became a major threat unless attended to.
Alternate solutions are need of the hour now.Hope OMR keeps showcasing Tamilnadu as a software destination despite challenges like these affecting its credibility.
